How to Recover iTunes Library from the Last Version of iTunes

Before you follow the steps below, ensure that you have the latest version of iTunes.

Step 1: Quit iTunes.

Step 2: Go to the iTunes folder that has the iTunes library files:

Mac: From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, select Go > Home. Open the Music folder, and then open the iTunes folder.

Windows: Navigate to \Users\username\Music\iTunes\.



Step 3: Drag the iTunes file straight to your Desktop. open the former iTunes Libraries folder in the iTunes folder,

Step 4: Locate the file named iTunes Library YYYY/MM/DD where YYYY/MM/DD is the iTunes was updated by you (Year-Month-Day).

Step 5: Perhaps you didn’t see a previous iTunes Libraries or a recent YYYY/MM/DD file, your iTunes Library file might be in a custom location. Look for the previous iTunes Libraries on your computer to find the most recent YYYY-MM-DD, then proceed with step 6.

Step 6: Chose the file, then press Ctrl + C (Windows) or Cmd + C (Mac).

Step 7: Press Alt + Up arrow (Windows) or Cmd + Up arrow (Mac).

Step 8: Press Ctrl + V (Windows) or Cmd + V (Mac).

Step 9: Copy the YYYY-MM-DD file into your iTunes folder. Rename the copied "iTunes” (without the quotation marks).

Step 10: Hold down the Shift key (Windows) or the Option key (Mac) and open iTunes.

Step 11: Select iTunes Library, click Choose Library. Point iTunes to the file you renamed in step 9.
